LA Forward Canvass Club Training Academy

Want to learn canvassing skills and support progressive LA City campaigns with a cool community of people?

LA Forward ’s Canvass Club Training Academy (CCTA) will build a community of volunteers who are trained to be effective political canvassers, positioning participants with the knowledge and skills to plug into existing campaigns for LA Forward-endorsed City races and help our people-powered candidates win!

Canvassing, or door knocking, is one of the most effective ways to reach voters. It involves stepping up to a stranger’s doorstep, starting a conversation, and building the kind of momentum that can change election outcomes.

CCTA is a two-month-long cohort experience from March through May 2026, and will: 

  • Provide almost 15 hours of in-person training.

  • Support participants to volunteer for LA Forward-endorsed campaigns in LA City as a way of extending their learning into experience and practice, and helping values-aligned candidates win

  • Build community with post-canvass social events to debrief and discuss our canvassing experiences.

Prospective participants must be able to attend in-person trainings on the following dates, from 10am-3pm on each date:

  • Sunday, March 29th - Training

  • Saturday, April 4th - Training

  • Saturday, April 18th - Training and First Canvass

And, volunteers must also select and attend AT LEAST 4 to 6 of the following canvasses (times TBD) –

  • Sunday, April 26th

  • Saturday, May 2th

  • Saturday, May 9th 

  • Saturday, May 16th

  • Saturday, May 23th

  • Saturday, May 30th

Overall, prospective applicants should expect at least 35 hours of engagement between the first workshop and their last canvass of the cohort. We will not be able to admit any candidates who cannot make all three in-person trainings at the beginning of the cohort.

A majority of our budget comes from our members’ monthly donations. In 2026, our goal is to raise 60% of our budget from dues-paying members. That will enable us to be 100% accountable to people like you. Your gift allows us to respond rapidly to emerging issues, to take on powerful interests, and spend as little time possible on fundraising so we can focus on the crucial work that needs to get done every day.
