Why are we doing this?
Resources for Independent Political Organizing Are Scarce
It costs money to run effective electoral campaigns, from paying a livable wage to dedicated staff to printing materials to the technology needed to contact hundreds of thousands of voters. The single most consistent resource of funding any organization can have is the support of a big base of members. It’s the best way to be funded because it means that we are accountable to what our members want and don’t have to worry about pleasing a handful of funders who might be nervous about our plans to hold powerful politicians accountable.
A Committed Membership Translates Into Progressive Power
Our power with elected officials and other organizations comes from how many people are with us. It’s great to share that 16,000 people get these emails. It’s even more impactful to be able to say we have thousands of dues-paying members. Every additional person who joins contributes to grows our ability to fight for the good fight and create a fair, flourishing Los Angeles County for everyone.
Why pay member dues?
LA Forward is a grassroots, people-powered effort.
Our members bring together a multiracial, cross-class movement — we vote together, we take action together, we build our leadership together, and we fund our movement together.
Anyone who agrees with our vision can be a member of LA Forward. There is no set amount. We don't ever want someone not to join because they can't afford it.
All we ask is for you to pay dues by making a personally significant financial contribution every month. Depending on our income, wealth, and class status, this will look different for each of us.
The average monthly donation is $22/month – the cost of a restaurant meal or two. We ask you to to contribute at a level that’s meaningful to you. Those who are able are invited to invest at the extra-give rate of $100/month or more.
Our members pay dues because this work takes resources. Building independent political power means building an organization that members proudly support.

Contributions on this website help us build independent political power through a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization and therefore are NOT tax-deductible. The IRS doesn’t allow tax-deductions for donations to 501(c)(4) because can spend unlimited resources on lobbying elected officials and are also allowed to endorse candidates for office and work independently to get them elected.
